I would recommend researching about the university you are choosing. It is not so easy to get around without car in US so choosing a University which is far from the city could mean that it is harder to get out and explore. make sure you do your medical and vaccine checks here before you go because it could be very expensive there. You can also try taking more courses and adjust them while you are there because you are able to withdraw from the courses if they are not what you are looking for.
I stayed at a university dorm called wolf village where you would share an apartment with 3 other students and you would get your own room. University housing is a safe choice because you do not need to worry about contracts and sub leasing. However, for the same price you might be able to find something Nicer. some third party dorms and rooms are even closer to the university halls than the actually university dorms. there are many sub leasing offers usually on facebook groups. I would recomment wolf village for university housing and Valentine commons for third party housing.
NC state is a University with great support for students, the campus is bigger than WU and there is a bus system called Wolf line that can take you around the campus for free. Make sure you inform yourself about all the available facilities like the Gym which you can use free of charge. classes are more interactive and have more assignments to do during the semester compared to WU and for some subjects you have to take the exam at exam halls (Delta) where you can choose the time yourself. ( make sure you do that rather early on because there are more time slots available). it's basically impossible to get bad grades if you put in a little bit of effort and do all the assignments.
for the entire exchange
There is a bus system for campus called wolf line. it takes you around the campus and there is an app for it to see the interval times. To get to city and go to downtown Raleigh or Cary you would need to get an uber. There are many different sports available on the campus and you can also go to basketball or American football games and other sport events usually for free or for a small cost. There are also career days and networking events throughout the semester.
My exchange semester was one of the best experiences i had. It was very fun to have that American college experience and to make many international friends. At the beggining it needed a lot of prepration but it really pays off the effort. Some of the best experiences that i had was from going out of the campus and traveling with my friends to different cities like Charlotte and Miami during spring break. I would highly recommend that while you are there to take some weekend trips to different parts of US like New york, Miami becuase it is so diverse and it has something for everyone to like.
