All of the booking for the exchange can be done online over the Internet. The flights, the bus from Dublin to Cork and the Accommodation. Therefore, the costs are clear from the beginning.
The Accommodation could be booked over the Internet like a Hotel, the costs where clear from the beginning. I resided in a student accomadation from a private company in a single dorm room with a private ensuite bathroom. The kitchen had to be shared with 6 other residents. My accommodation "Student Lee Point" is the closest student accommodation to the City Center, 20 walking minutes away from the University. Safety in the Citycenter was lower than in Vienna, especially around Oliver Plunket Street (right next Door) at night. To get to University, I rode a bike which I bought over the Internet. This also helped me get around the City very quickly.
The Campus itself is very comfortable, with beautiful architechture and lots of green. The classrooms are similar to WU standards. The teaching style is also very similar, I only did courses that where similar to the WU LVPS, with frontal lessons with 100 students at once. My favourite course was "Portfolio Analysis" by Professor Hugh Farrell.
for the entire exchange
Public transport in the city is very cheap and reliable, students need a "Student Leap Card" to get 50% off. The safety in the City Center is acceptable, but not as good as in Vienna. It is a very vibrant City, with lots of activities.
Cork City is a very vibrand City with lots of students, very colourful buildings and lots of Pubs. The weather became better and better during spring and we did more and more outside activities like bike riding, hiking and relaxing in the Park. The best spot for the last one is Bells Field where you get a great view over the city. Of course, the Nightlife scene is great with good Pubs and live music.
