- Time spent at the partner university: 5 months
The process was initiated by WU. Then BI had already been in touch with further information. It was all very well organised and we received all the important information by email. It was very straightforward.
As an exchange student, you are guaranteed a place in student accommodation. You just have to apply before a certain deadline (i.e. immediately after being allocated a place). I stayed at Bjolsen and had a studio apartment, which was quite nice. There is also BSN, and if you don't mind sharing a flat with someone else, BSN is actually a bit nicer than Bjolsen. I walked about 10 minutes to the university, otherwise the bus stops right outside the door. You can also get into town quite quickly by bus.
Courses varied greatly depending on the faculty/department. Otherwise, it was very similar to WU, but I never had to attend classes. It was super easy to keep up, and none of the courses were really difficult. The university has a very modern building with a barista café and a pretty good canteen. The library was super modern and more like a co-working space. But it was always busy too.
for the entire exchange
Oslo is not Vienna. But there are good cafés that are priced similarly to those in Vienna. Alcohol is significantly more expensive, however, and eating out is also more expensive. But I had imagined it to be much more expensive. The prices in the supermarket are also comparable to Austria. Especially Rema and Kiwi. I paid about the same here as in Austria. There is a gym at the university, which cost 25 euros a month. Here you can also attend courses and use all of the facilities. The BI organises an introductory week with parties where you can get to know people. Apart from the party culture, Norway is a rather quiet country. Accordingly, I also felt safe.
The different people you meet along the way were particularly exciting. They make your stay something special.
