1. Preparation

I already spent an exchange in Trondheim previously, so for me it is harder to give good advice here as I didn't prepare much and took the move much more casually this time around. A good advice is to start looking early at living accomodations.

2. Accommodation

I looked for a private accomodation on the website Hybel, as Sammen puts every exchange student into the same housing block at Hartleberg. I didn't want to just live with exchange students but also with norwegians and I wanted to live closer to the city center which Hartleberg is not. Sammen also doesn't consider your ranking of housing locations and puts everyone starting at NHH at Hartleberg.

3. Academic life at host university

There is a bar and a club in the cellar of the university so that is pretty cool. A part I didn't like is that student groups for sports and such things are very against taking in internationals and usually only let norwegians join. For courses I can recommend "Management Consulting", it was an interesting course. I like that, at least in my courses it seemed like NHH is focused on more practical exercises rather than purely academic ones.

5. Every day life in the host country

Its safe, the public transport is good, the social/leisure activities are decent but because you are usually with exchange student groups its always easy to plan your own things. ESN is not very organised in Bergen and the NHH sports groups are against internationals with NHH seemingly being fine with that. Overall my experience in that regard was much better at NTNU in Trondheim.

6. Testimonial

At Uken I was part of organizing a big festival and we also did a cruiseship trip for 3 days with 600 of the Uken volunteers which was very fun. Cabin trips are very fun but a bit difficult to organize as you need a DNT account. 17. of Mai is amazing (the norwegian constitution day) where everyone in the city is partying and you get invited into random apartments and gardens just walking on the street.
