Due to time constraints I did very little in preparation. Overall I belief it's a good idea to be more concious of course load upfront. Also be clear about important dates at the beginning of the stay (e.g. intro weeks and starting events)
I was able to find an apartment quickly over a uni website This was private housing, but organized over a uni mediator. I lived with 3 roommates. Uab is not close to the city center of Barcelona. Still I would not suggest to anyone to move to the student accommodation on campus. Its similar in price, but a worse experience overall, from all that ive heard Also be careful with tertiary online housing options. These can be scams. Be early with your apartment search!
The teaching style is closer to courses taken as part of the CBK. I managed to sign up for a Masters course, which was the most interesting by far. Academically most courses do not require attendance and you can show up to the exams as is. The bachelors courses are better for early semesters from WU perspective, as content is non in depth. Student live on campus with locals is very active, if you decide to join. Campus culture is more protest oriented and closer to a politically active uni than WU. The campus has nice outdoor areas, facilities themselves are subpar compared to WU
for the entire exchange
Get the NIE upfront, so that you are able to book the local bike service! Public transit is good. Nightbuses are a bit unreliable at times. Safety concerns for barcelona are exaggerated. Be aware of pickpockets though. Otherwise you will have a good time in this city. It revolves around social life and being outdoors. Also join the street festivals.
Prioritzing social life over your academic proliferation is valuable for every exchange. The best experience of mine always came along by saying yes and being proactive in organizing, also if you might be unsure about group dynamics at first. My highlight was an Andalucia trip with friends.
