1. Preparation

You should definitely pack enough clothes, or send them by post. It is really expensive to send them directly to Strasbourg, but sending them to Kehl is quite cheap. Also make sure to save up some money beforehand, the Erasmus Money really helps, but it isn't enough for the whole time there, especially if you plan on going on a lot of trips, which I would highly recommend. And concerning travel choice, take the Flixbus from Vienna to Strasbourg, it drives directly and you can bring 2 bags and a backpack for not a lot of money. If you are not coming from Vienna, it is still worth it to check Flixbus out.

2. Accommodation

I applied to the Student Housing which was provided by Crous, the Université de Strasbourg has a Info-Session just on this. And depending on how much you are willing to spend (240-500€ per month roughly) you can apply to different Housings. Some are closer to Uni than others, some have a private kitchen and so on. I lived at Les Agapanthes, which had it's own bath and kitchen, the rooms are quite big compared to the other Housing Options. It is a bit outside of Strasbourg, so you always have to check for the last Trams or Busses, and it takes about 20-30 minutes to get to the city center or University. It was very beautiful and safe there also. I really liked it there, but if you prefer to live closer, I would recommend other Housing Options.

3. Academic life at host university

It is definetly different to WU, the Campus is not as modern and spacious as the WU one, but it still offers a nice library and Mensa. The academic culture can be a bit difficult, a lot of the other exchange students are not getting graded, it is only pass or fail for them, so they often only do the minimum effort required, so doing groupworks can be a bit annoying, especially if you care about your grades. But you can also get a really cool team and then working together with international people makes a lot of fun. Most classes I remember quite positively. The teaching style is a bit different to WU, but nothing you can't get used to, it is a nice change of scenery. My Course Recommendations are the following: Big Data Analysis with Python, Introduction to European Economy and International Management.

5. Every day life in the host country

The tram system works really well and arrives on time, the busses mostly as well, but sometimes they can be late or not show up at all, that only happened twice to me. But all in all I would give the Public transport a 4/5. The city is quite safe, there are some sketchy people sometimes, but they normally ignore you. I never really felt unsafe, however that can differ from person to person, here also a 4/5. Social leisure and Activities are quite nice, there are a lot of bars, cinemas, parks, clubs and some cool options like bowling or a karaoke bar, a 3.5/5. The Events and Sports are great and a 5/5, you have a lot of cool events and sport options (climbing, boxing, swimming) which you can do completely free with your university card.

6. Testimonial

My personal highlight were the friends I made there, it is like you are building a completely new life, with so many other exchange students and everyone is in the same situation. I also did a lot of cool trips, to neighbouring countries, which I really enjoyed. Try to exploit as many options as possible while you are there, it will end sooner than you think. Also visiting another University was also really cool and interesting.
