1. Preparation

do your research on Indonesian culture and city of Yogyakarta

2. Accommodation

All exchange students live at Ganda's villas. It's basically a shared house. You have your own room wit bathroom and common areas such as kitchen and living room are sharable. It's not provided by university. You can contact me and I'll send his Whatsapp number so you can secure your room. The villa is located in a calm neighborhood. It takes around 20 minutes to get to the university by scooter.

3. Academic life at host university

I didn't use much of campus facilities if im being honest because the uni life is different from WU life. In general, id say it's easier to study at UGM than at WU, the professors are really chill about everything. There are less strict rules. However, you have to wear a shirt and pants/long skirt at campus The teaching style is different from WU. Professors are more engaging with the students. And also we had a lot of holidays during the semester so we had more Zoom classes

5. Every day life in the host country

There are no public transportation, everyone uses scooters to get around or taxi (its very cheap). The city is quite safe, I dont remember anything dangerous that happened to me or other exchange students You can find pretty much everything there if you want. I did tennis and pilates, some tier exchange students played padel and did muhai thai and other activities.

6. Testimonial

My exchange semester at Universitas Gadjah Mada exceeded all my expectations. I experienced a new culture, met incredible people from around the world, and explored places I had only dreamed of visiting. Living in Indonesia helped me become more open-minded, adaptable, and confident, it also gave me opportunity to travel not only around Indonesia but also South East Asia and Oceania. It was an unforgettable chapter of my life that I would recommend to every student.
