1. Preparation

Preparing for an Exchange for ESSEC University really was not too stressful, they have student housing you can apply there and used trains to arrive at the university.

2. Accommodation

I was living in a student residence from ESSEC. They have several but I chose to live at Les Hauts, which is cheaper compared to other uni residences (620 Euros) but if you apply for CAF (it is french social services you can get a deduction of about 220 Euros a month. Most exchange students lived at that residence so you immediately had a community surrounding you. However, the rooms are not too nice, I had a double flat and shared it with a roommate, which was really nie everyone had their own room and shower you just had to share toilet and kitchen. Compared to the single flats the space you live on is a lot bigger especially the kitchen which can be nice. I also had friends living directly in Paris which I would recommend if you have the opportunity and there are a lot of different student housing possiblilities in Cergy (like CLEY), those are a bit more expensive but usually have really nice rooms. The train to the Uni takes 6 minutes and you have to walk like 10 minutes, and to Paris you usually need 45-60 minutes depending on where you are going.

5. Every day life in the host country

ESSEC offers a lot of sport opportunities you can use for free like Pilates, Yoga, climbing, wave boarding etc. And the uni has a bar on campus and does als regularly organize parties. I always feld save in Cergy and also Paris.

6. Testimonial

For me the people and the friends I found there made it really special, the exchange student body was truly international which is why I found friends from the US, Mexico, China, Hungary and Turkey. And also being so close to Paris was amazing the city really does have a lot of to offer from museums, bakeries, book stores, bars, parks..
