1. Preparation

- By plane: The easiest option is to fly to Brussels Airport (BRU), followed by a direct train to Antwerp, which takes approximately 30–40 minutes. - Confirm your accommodation, including your move-in date and rental arrangements.

2. Accommodation

I started looking for accommodation several months before the beginning of my exchange semester, as good options tend to fill up quickly. I mainly searched through university recommendations (Kodweb), student housing platforms, and social media groups for international students. It is worth comparing different options and contacting landlords or residence managers early, as response times can vary. I lived in a private student house (district 2060), about a 25-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride from the university. The location was convenient, and cycling was the easiest way to get to campus. The area was generally safe, although there are definitely nicer and safer neighborhoods in Antwerp.

3. Academic life at host university

The campus provides a comfortable study environment, with many quiet areas for individual work as well as collaborative spaces for group projects. The academic culture at the University of Antwerp is international, open, and interactive. Students are encouraged to actively participate in lectures, ask questions, and contribute to discussions. 5. Every day life in the host country

- Tram and Bike - Antwerp is generally a safe city for students. - Antwerp offers a wide variety of social and cultural activities. The city is known for its historic centre, museums, shopping streets, cafés, and restaurants.

My exchange semester at the University of Antwerp was an incredibly enriching experience, both academically and personally. Studying in an international environment allowed me to meet people from all over the world, gain new perspectives, and develop valuable intercultural skills.
