1. Preparation

Overall, the most important is to prepare all the VISA documents on time and submit the request as soon as possible. In the end, my VISA was only confirmed two weeks before my departure date. Other than that, finding accommodation in Sydney was fairly last minute, as people usually start looking for follow up tenants only 1-3 weeks in advance. Everything else is easy to manage, online SIM card after you arrive, medical insurance activation, etc.

2. Accommodation

I used Flatmatefinder to look for a shared flat which worked well for me. In general, do not be stressed that people usually only look for new tenants short notice, this is normal in Australia. The quality of apartments is low, so I recommend getting something first for the start for a few days or weeks and then after look for something permanent, if the place is not as nice. I had three different stays in different areas in Sydney. I recommend doing the same so you can experience more of the city. I stayed in Coogee, CBD close to Oxford street, and North Sydney. North Sydney was actually my favorite, close to many beaches and Nature - and only 20min by bus to uni.

3. Academic life at host university

I chose the blocked courses so I would be able to maximize my travel time rather than having to go to university every week. The campus is large, has a gym and food court in the middle of the CBD. Teaching style is very different to Europe, it is more practical and you will be in class with many non business students.

5. Every day life in the host country

People are very friendly and laid back. Everyone is up early, really into sports and going for a surf during lunch break is a thing. It is definitely a nice experience.

6. Testimonial

The exchange was a very seamless experience for me, I had a great time with both people from the places I stayed in and with classmates. Recommend to participate in the socializing events from university to connect in the beginning. The university itself can seem a bit unorganized at times, but you will manage after a few days. After all, people are always willing to help you out. Enjoy your stay in Sydney!
