1. Preparation

start earlier with certain preparations (e.g. accomodation, ...) to be more relaxed, but also do not get stressed with adminstrative things because the Università degli Studi di Trieste tends to do everything rather late travelling there from Vienna is super easy by train or car and you do not need to prepare it (except booking the train ticket)

2. Accommodation

I used idealista.it and immboliare.it The difficulty is the short time period to rent and some people are annoyed by not speaking Italian (so I would recommend writing to them in Italian and then using a translator). Unfortunately, it is a hard to find an apartment or a room in a shared flat. Sometimes something comes up last minute, but I was not relaxed enough to wait until last minute. I ended up in an apartment of friends of my parents, they rented it to me. It was located in San Vito, very up the hill (15min walking to Piazza Unita). I would 100% recommend choosing an area close to the city center and not close to University. You can easily go to University by bus or walk, depends on where exactly you are living). good areas: San Vito, Barriera Alta, Barriera Nuova, Corso Italia, Via Venti Settembre I have always felt safe walking home at night.

3. Academic life at host university

The library is rather small and not really good equipped (sockets for charging,...) but still nice. The campus has nice bars and places to sit outside to have lunch or coffee (amazing coffee, spritz and tramezzini at university!!) The teaching style is really depending on the prof and the course, some teach very open and more like a big conversation and you don't always know what the topic is right now and others are rather organised and have a proper Syllabus that is followed. Being on time is not really common there and also no one cares (for students but also professors). In general organisation and administrative stuff can not be compared with WU, everything happens last minute or not at all, do not get stressed if you are an organised person. Courses: Microeconomics with Prof Lo Bue International Marketing with Prof Romanello Business Management with Prof Romanello I would recommend every course of Prof Rubina Romanello. Microeconomics was also really doable.

5. Every day life in the host country

Trieste is a very sporty city when it comes to running clubs, a lot of people go cycling there and there are also Yoga/Pilates studios, ... It has a huge bar culture (aperitivo in the afternoon or evening), there are also a few clubs but it is not so popular there. Especially in Mai/June/July there are amazing day drinking events with House/Techno music. Taking the bus anywhere is super easy and cheap, the only thing is that often they are not on time. All in all, I was walking almost everything there since all the spots are super close and near together, except University. (it is not a big city) Safety situation was pretty good, better than expected, I would say same as in Vienna, maybe even better.

6. Testimonial

My exchange got so special mostly because of the people. Try to connect with the locals or find a small group of Erasmus students (or best case both). You don't need a big group, just a few cool people!! Say yes to everything and plans, in Trieste you never know if you are out for 2 hours or end up away for a night. I really liked the advantages of living in a small town and community (meeting all the people at the same bar/event every week).
