1. Preparation

For the SS I would recommend spending New Years there. Some of us flew in from Prague, which was significantly cheaper than from Germany or Vienna (600EUR cheaper). Make sure to organise all of your documents in advance as you need to send hardcopies to Hong Kong. You need to include passport pictures which are a different size than the regular ones in Germany! As well as a bank statement with sufficient balance (sometimes that takes a few days/ a week to get send to you by the bank). Do it as early as possible so you don´t get stressed. But if its a few days late it´s not a problem if you let them know

2. Accommodation

We all chose the International House as Accommodation. it's really cheap (like 250€ a month). You have to share a room, but it wasn't a problem at all. It's small for sure, but enough space. We were traveling and partying a lot so we weren't in the room as much. Can get cold in the beginning of the semester in January. But we left in May and didn't have to use air conditioning. It's pretty clean and overall a good choice. Would do it again. It's a bit far from the main campus so you have to take a bus 20min. And to the city center it takes pretty much an hour all in all. At night you have to take an uber or taxi but if you drive back in groups it's like 8€ per person. Really safe. Although we saw some snakes, a wild pig and some monkeys on campus. But always felt safe at any time of day.

3. Academic life at host university

Nice campus. Really green, pretty nature. Huge campus so it takes time to go from room to lecture. The students are encouraged to participate in class but not many do. Advantage for us. But group assignments can get tough as the local students are pretty closed-down and don´t talk a lot. Almost in any class you have group assignments. Would recommend course GLSD3501 Global Business Organisations. Was pretty much just Exchange students in this class, which was fun. MGNT3010 (for PFO) also good.

5. Every day life in the host country

Loved the city. Amazing culture, nice people. You can go hiking, swimming and see a skyline in the same day, it's so versatile. Amazing Food and international cuisine. Very safe, even at 5am on a Saturday on a lonely street. Never felt unsafe as a woman once. Never got stolen anything. Nobody ever tried. Public transport is great, also good connection to go to Shenzhen to Mainland China. A lot of international people, but also a lot of Germans. Horse Races on Wednesdays are a must.
