Apply early and double-check all the documents WU requires so you don’t run into last-minute issues. When preparing for your semester abroad, sort out housing, courses, and your budget ahead of time. Talking to students who already went on exchange is super helpful.
I lived in a HOAS apartment located on campus, which is quite rare to get. However, I would strongly recommend applying for these student accommodations.
The Business School of Aalto University has a very modern and well-designed buildings with lots of open study spaces. The teaching style is more practical and project-based compared to WU Vienna, where classes tend to be more structured and exam-focused. Overall, academics at Aalto felt more hands-on and interactive.
for the entire exchange
Public transport was super reliable, but the HSL card cost about €45 per month, which felt expensive compared to Vienna. I really enjoyed the mix of activities, from sauna and ice bathing to attending ice hockey matches. There was always something social or sporty to do.
My exchange in Finland was unforgettable! Sauna sessions and ice bathing in the sea were by far my favorite activities and something I’ll always remember. I loved the mix of nature, culture, and new friendships.
