1. Preparation

Before applying, one of the main criteria for choosinf the university was the dormitory avaliablity. Polytechnic university of Hong Kong provides guaranteed accommodation in a nice district for a very low price. The application process itself was quite easy, I ve only had one in-person interview. Before going to Hong Kong make aure to buy an adapter for the sockets

2. Accommodation

I ve stayed in a dorm provided by the university. I ve shared a room with another student from germany. The room is about 12 m^2 and you share the bathroom with another room (so in total 4 people for one bathroom). While the quality is Generally low, it is much cheaper compared to the marketprice, so overall the price/quality ratio is very good. Moreover, the neighborhood is nice. It is about 10-15 min away from the university

3. Academic life at host university

The Infrastructure is good. The teaching style is a big topic. In total I took 4 courses, teached by 3 Professors. 2 Professors were experts in regards to theory, however the lectures seemed a bit boring and the content overlaps with the lectures I ve had at the WU. However 1 professor (he told all students to call him „Uncle David“ is a retired ceo that puts empasis on practical examples. These lectures were a big highlight for me, a lot of interesting examples and a lot of fun. So 4/5 consists of 2/5 and 5/5

5. Every day life in the host country

Hong Kong is generally very safe and has a good public transportation system. For me, my favorite activity was going to a beach with my friends from Singapore and Thailand (the humidity in August/September/Octomber is extremly high)

My stay in Hong Kong was an unforgettable experience, that I would certainly do again. Hong Kong is a beautiful city, with a lot of opportunities and unique vibe. I have also visited mainland China a lot of times (Guangzhou, Shenzhen), with very impressive cities. Overall, if you are considering an Exchange semester in Hong Kong, you are doing the right choice
