The preparation for the exchange semester at the ISEG was straightforward. Registration and course selection were completed via an online system. Courses were allocated on a first come, first served basis, so early registration was important. As an EU citizen, no visa or residence permit was required. No additional health insurance was necessary.
Finding a room in Lisbon is challenging. I found my room through Uniplaces, but overall I would be cautious when using platforms like uniplaces or idealista, as scams were quite common. Based on my experience and what I heard from other students, it is essential to start looking for accommodation at least three to four months in advance and to connect with other exchange students whenever possible. Monthly rent usually ranges between €600 and €750, depending on the location and facilities. Living central or close to a metro station is important.
ISEG is a very international university with many exchange students. All master’s courses are taught in English. Teaching methods include lectures, group work, presentations and exams. Workload varies by course, finance courses can be challenging, while others are more manageable. Especially the management courses were easy. University facilities are functional and in a central location.
for the entire exchange
Everyday life in Lisbon is great. The city is lively, international and very student-friendly. All places can easily reached by foot, public transport or Uber. Organizations like ESN and ELL offer many events, trips and activities. Surfing, nightlife and cultural events are everywhere.
My exchange semester in Lisbon was an excellent experience, especially the quality of living. Lisbon is an ideal city for exchange students, offering a high quality of life and many different leisure opportunities. Despite some challenges with housing, I would highly recommend the Universidade de Lisboa - ISEG and would choose this exchange again.
