1. Preparation

-> read past exchange reports -> look for housing soon enough (I would recommend WhatsApp (esade) groups, since scam is common and flats are often very expensive), I found my flat over Idealista but it was not good (was the only flat out of like 100 I applied for who did online viewings) -> get housing along the S1/S2 line to get to esade quicker; neighbourhoods Eixample, Gracia -> if you want to get a public transport card get the T Jove (you can get it at several stations, I would recommend Provenca since it is also open on Sunday, costs like 45€ for 3 months and you can get to Sant Cugat with it - take you passport when buying it)

2. Accommodation

-> look for housing soon enough (I would recommend WhatsApp (esade) groups, since scam is common and flats are often very expensive), I found my flat over Idealista but it was not good (was the only flat out of like 100 I applied for who did online viewings) -> student residencies are not that common in Barcelona/very expensive - look for a shared flat -> get housing along the S1/S2 line to get to esade quicker; neighbourhoods Eixample, Gracia

3. Academic life at host university

-> campus is quite far outside, but with S1/S2 it is fine -> we mainly had group projects and presentations -> attendance and participation is extremely important, I even had a course where participation made up 50% of my grade -> profs are quite good

5. Every day life in the host country

-> many people say Barcelona is unsafe but tbh I never felt unsafe (dont walk at night out alone, avoid certain districts, keep your phone and wallet close then you will be fine) -> there are a lot of sports and social activities -> check out esade groups and ask home students for tips -> usually also a lot of cems activities -> public transport with t jove quite affordable

6. Testimonial

Barcelona was amazing, the city is so different to Austrian/German cities. It's full of life, vibrant, also quite chaotic but you will get used to it. It can also get a lot at times but there are several opportunities to escape the city for a day or weekend nearby. What made the exchange so amazing are the people. Try to join as many social activities as possible, especially in the beginning and you will make friends for life.
