1. Preparation

Prepare very well for the interview and also make sure to select all 7 possible destinations to increase your chances. Start looking for accommodation and flight early. Also, inform yourself well about what you need in different countries (for example visa, insurance, or other documents).

2. Accommodation

I found my apartment through Facebook groups that are specifically for apartment hunting in Hong Kong. I lived in a small private apartment in Central on Hong Kong Island and not on campus. The university was about 10-15 minutes away by public transport, which was very convenient. I always felt very safe there, both during the day and at night.

3. Academic life at host university

The campus facilities were mostly very new and modern. There were also many good food options on campus. The teaching style and academic culture were different compared to WU Vienna, as it was more competitive and demanding. However, it was still easy to adapt, and I never felt uncomfortable. I can recommend the course Supply Chain Management (BLP), as it was a small and relaxed class. I would not recommend Microeconomics, as it was very challenging and required a lot of time and effort.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport in Hong Kong is excellent. It runs almost 24 hours a day, and the subway is very modern, clean, and safe. Buses are also very reliable and easy to use. I always felt very safe, even when traveling alone as a woman, so there was no need to worry about safety. There were many events organized by the university, but also a lot of events outside the university, such as weekly horse racing. The university offered many different sports options, including a very affordable gym and other sports facilities.

6. Testimonial

What made my exchange truly special were the people I met and became friends with. I met people from very different backgrounds and countries, which made the experience very enriching. Hong Kong itself is an incredible city with so many things to see and do. Another highlight was the proximity to other Asian countries, which allowed me to travel a lot with my friends and made my exchange semester unforgettable.
