2. Accommodation

It was easy for me—the university has a housing platform, and I found a place through it (Edenhall) I had a private room in an apartment shared by five people. The commute to campus took about 25–30 minutes by bus, and roughly the same by bike. Annoying aspects included fire alarms going off randomly and very basic equipment.

3. Academic life at host university

UCC has a more traditional, green campus and a relaxed academic atmosphere, while WU feels more modern and business-oriented. Teaching at UCC was more continuous and assignment-based, with essays and group work throughout the semester, compared to WU’s stronger focus on final exams. Lecturers were approachable and classes more discussion-based, which made the learning experience more personal overall. The essays required a lot of work, but they were not particularly difficult.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport was relatively poor, as buses were often delayed, and the bike-sharing system frequently did not work properly, especially in rainy weather. However, the safety situation was very good, and there was a wide range of social and leisure activities, events, and sports options. The university even has its own sports centre, which is free for students.

6. Testimonial

I can wholeheartedly recommend spending a semester abroad in Cork! The city is vibrant and welcoming, and both the local Irish students and international students were incredibly friendly and open. Getting involved in clubs, societies, and campus activities really enriched my experience—I would suggest joining as much as possible rather than holding back. Whenever I had questions or ran into difficulties, the International Office and professors were always approachable and helpful. This semester has been an unforgettable experience, giving me the chance to meet amazing people, make lasting friendships, and see parts of Europe I might not have otherwise visited.
