1. Preparation

Secure your housing in time, and don't take a full-year lease; it's very hard to find people to sublease. Choose housing near campus; otherwise, it is hard to get to the main spots where all the students are hanging out. I advise you to book a flexible flight so you can change it without paying a lot for it!

2. Accommodation

The Rive is the best place to live because it is right on campus, near bars and grocery markets. My friends and I moved into a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment; it was very spacious, and you have your own amenities, gym, and lobby. The apartment is 15 min away from campus and 5 min away from grocery stores, restaurants, and bars. It is very safe and located on a crowded street.

3. Academic life at host university

The teaching style was very personal, and you were divided into small groups. It is less intense, and you can take a lot of courses that you have at WU and transfer the credits. They offer a lot of marketing- or finance-related courses that are very specific, but also interesting electives like beekeeping and cinematography.

5. Every day life in the host country

I never took public transport because I lived pretty centrally. In big cities I always Ubered and only took the public transport when we were traveling as a big group, but other than that I never felt comfortable enough as a girl to do so.

6. Testimonial

My exchange semester taught me a lot, and I chose the United States because it is far from my home and what I am familiar with. I was intrigued by college life and how people lived, and I aspired to travel extensively, which I did. I also took advantage of every opportunity to travel and learn about different cultures and academic subjects. University was very different; the professors cared about your performance and were supportive of your goals, which I really appreciated. Overall, I am grateful that I did it because it taught me so much about life, myself, what I like and value, new perspectives, and academics.
