1. Preparation

I would start the process as early as possible, especially for countries that require a visa. These appointments take time, and it’s a relief to have them taken care of early on. Additionally, it is very important to get in touch with the university as early as possible in order to secure your preferred courses.

2. Accommodation

In my specific case, everything worked out perfectly—also in comparison to my fellow students who went abroad for a semester. The only thing I would have paid more attention to is choosing shared accommodation closer to the nightlife area. The closer to Northgate, the better, as it is also very close to the business campus.

3. Academic life at host university

The Texas Aggies (as the students are called) are almost like a cult—but this is not meant in a negative way at all. The university thrives on traditions, and it is extremely interesting to learn about them. Teaching at the master’s level was largely based on group work, and participation was extremely important.

5. Every day life in the host country

Very safe, hardly any public transportation, outstanding sports facilities, and especially in the fall, the football season is a real highlight.

6. Testimonial

It was incredible—truly an enriching and essential experience if you want to understand Americans. At the same time, it also makes you appreciate Europe in a completely new way afterward.
