1. Preparation

You can apply to upto 7 partner universities and you have to rank them in order of your preference. I only put one university as my preference and focused my motivation essay on that university and the country in which that university is.

2. Accommodation

I stayed in Aparto Giovenale which is a student dorm for Bocconi students. I applied via the Bocconi housing application that was sent from bocconi in around may. It was very very convenient as the dorm was only 5 mins walking distance away from the university. It was also very clean, modern and beautiful, had lots of study areas and a 24/7 reception desk. I payed 4200EUR for the whole duration from August to December in total. I had an en-suite room with my own bathroom but the kitchen was a common kitchen shared by maximum 10 people. There are grocery stores, tram and bus stops, bars and restaurants very close by and you can also get to the city centre fairly quickly with the public transport. It is a dorm where mostly Bocconi exchange students live so its great to make friends. But it was very competitive to get a room there. My recommendation is to use multiple devices to have a chance of securing a room.

3. Academic life at host university

Campus is okay nothing special. Courses are well taught and professors are great. Not a lot of study places and campus was always very crowded. Class schedules can sometimes change suddenly causing overlap with other courses.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport pass cost 22 EUR monthly. Eating out is a bit more affordable in Milan than Vienna, especially coffee. Probably not as safe at night in Milan as is in Vienna. Public transport also does not run after a certain time at night, not even on weekends so going out and coming back would require Ubers which can get expensive. Lots of museums, and events happening in the city especially during Fashion Week. Lots of nice bars and restaurants one can go to. Grocery stores are also open on Sundays especially the one close to Aparto Giovenale is open until 11pm everyday.

6. Testimonial

Overall it was a good experience. Milan was great and Bocconi's academic experience was very good I loved all my courses. The social experience could have been better.
