1. Preparation

Inform yourself about the University & the city... Think about why you want to study in Lund and why you are the right candidate for this exchange. During the interview, be convincing and show that you are genuinely interested in this place. It is helpful to know which courses you could take there and how they fit your studies at WU. The interviewer will ask why you chose this university and what makes you a suitable candidate, so prepare clear and honest answers.

2. Accommodation

Before applying, I read in previous experience reports that someone had lived at Kalmar Nation, so I contacted them relatively early (April) and was offered a corridor room at Kalmar Västra. Most of the people living there were exchange students themselves, so the atmosphere was very welcoming & international! The accommodation was located in the west of Lund. It was about 20 minutes by bike to the university/LUSEM, but only around 8 minutes to the city center. I always felt safe in the area, even when coming home late in the evening. Living in a corridor was a great way to meet people, and the rent was comparatively affordable. Some of my friends found their accommodation through the AF Bostäder lottery, while others used Facebook groups. However, you should be careful with private offers and watch out for scams.

3. Academic life at host university

Lund is a student city, so you are surrounded by students everywhere. The campus infrastructure is very good, with modern libraries, many study spaces, and well-equipped buildings. Everything is easy to reach by bike, which makes everyday student life very convenient. The biggest difference compared to WU Vienna was definitely that every course included group work, and it often made up a large part of the final grade. In general, professors are addressed by their first name, and the atmosphere is very open and relaxed. There is quite a lot of work to do, but the courses are designed in a very varied way, with presentations, group projects, and case studies, which makes studying much more interesting and engaging.

5. Every day life in the host country

Lund is a student city, and the Student Nations play a very important role there. To take part in the activities, every student has to join a Nation and be part of Studentlund. The Nations are run by students, which is why events, food, and activities are usually much cheaper. They are basically the center of social life, offering parties, affordable lunches, sports activities, and many other events - therefore its super easy to meet new people :) I bought a bike right at the beginning of my exchange, and cycling is definitely the best and easiest way to get around in Lund. In general, public transport is very good, with excellent train connections to Malmö and Copenhagen. The proximity to these cities is a big advantage, as you can reach Malmö in about 15 minutes and Copenhagen in less than an hour. At the beginning of the semester, the university organized several welcome events and mentoring groups, which made it very easy to meet new people. In general, there is always something going on in Lund, and it is easy to become part of the student community!

6. Testimonial

My exchange semester exceeded my expectations. I met so many people from all over the world and felt very welcome and comfortable in Lund. I learned a lot academically and gained new perspectives through a different teaching style. The combination of studying, student life, and the international atmosphere made this semester truly special for me!
