1. Be aware of the deadlines asap. 2. Don't stress yourself to much about which University it will be - the most important thing is that you go somewhere abroad bc it is incredible! 3.Read a lot of exchange reports. Think what you want: Good reputation, party focus, sports focus etc.
I lived on campus as most universtiy students in Busbee (part of East Campus Village which is a great area to life!) All students got housing on campus if the wanted too which I strongly recommend bc all your friends willl live next to you which is a lot of fun! The only downside is that it is kinda expensive but so is living off campus. It felt totally safe with securities etc.
The Terry college at UGA, where you will have most of your courses bc of the business requirement at WU, is really modern. The professors were in my opinion slightly better than at WU. The courses were relatively easy to earn an A (grade 1) in, as group projects and attendance made up a large portion of the final grade. My advice: Talk to the professor after the first lectures and ask them what you need to to to do well in their course. The impact is huge, it feels like a cheatcode ;)
for the entire exchange
Public transport is free for students and the buses on campus are really good. Some also just walk or got a bike from the student bike club. Uber is really cheap there and was one of our main ways of getting around. The free time options at UGA are incredible! The football team is really good which makes the games even more fun. The bar scene is amazing and Dowtown is really lively as well, also the frats are a big deal and Tailgaiting (drinking before the games) is a lot of fun. Also the sport facilities at UGA are unlike everything you prob. have seen before, it is difficult for an European mind how much money goes into that. Amazing gym, indoor pool, basketball, pickleball and baseically every other sport that you can imagine is offered there. They also have over 400 student clubs that you can join which I can recommend to get to know locals. And the university and international student club is hosting tons of event, it is impossible to get bored - the only challenge is to decide which of the amazing events of the day you wanna attend!
This will be the best decision of your life! First of all, a semester abroad is just pure fun. Second of all, if you have the chance to go to UGA - take it!! You won't regret it. This semester was a truly special time for me. It was loaded with amazing experiences and great memories with people that I can now call my friends. The work load is really not to hard and if you can I can recommend to plan your classes so that you have only on Tuesdays and thursdays class. I didn't do that but it is great, trust me! I personally focuse on three things: 1. sports: The gym there is crazzy and I loved to play pickleball with friends. We also founded an international soccer team and played a tournament which was a lot of fun. 2. Going out, housepartys, tailgating. You won't have a hard time to find funny places to party! 3. I personally was really interested into Entrepreneurship and they have great progams that they offer. Highly achieved serial entrepreneurs as profs and an amazing Accelerator program. Strongly recommended if you are into that!
