Try to connect with other WU students going to Tulane and find proper accomodation together early on. Try to stay on top of all the documents/visa/payments and get the visa as soon as possible before Trump bans new visas. Contact the Tulane Office of International Students if anything comes up regarding setting up new accounts within the Tulane system (canvas/outlook...). They were also very helpful regarding the immigration process.
Tulane shares following recourses early: Online Housing Resources • Tulane Off Campus Housing: https://offcampushousing.tulane.edu/ • GroupMe Tulane Upperclassman Housing Chat: https://groupme.com/join_group/83947953/CNHLgrfi • Subletting near Tulane Page: https://tulane.uloop.com/housing/index.php/sublets • Tulane Classifieds Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Tulane.Classifieds/ • Tulane Off-Campus Residents Association Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/227725533953554/ • Tulane University (TU) Housing, Sublets & Roommates Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/400435710128375/about/ • Craigslist: http://neworleans.craigslist.org/ • Nola.com: http://homes.nola.com/ On "https://offcampushousing.tulane.edu/" I found a house only 2 min from campus that I shared with 2 other WU students and one American. Most internation students live in shared houses in close proximity to the campus and all houses are somewhat similar in terms of size (single-family), how clean it was (clean but minimal interior fittings) and how expensive it was (800-1200$/month). The neighboorhood north of the Uptwon Campus is very safe with a lot of Police presence.
The campus is rather large, with many separate buildings connected by safe roads and a park. The Business School is modern and right next to the LBC building, where most restaurants are. Food on campus can be very good and costs around $10–15 per meal. The academic culture is very relaxed, yet many students are highly ambitious. The teaching style is very interactive, with smaller classes allowing for active discourse, which contributes greatly to the grade. Courses can be chosen from a range of difficulty; some classes can be ridiculously low-effort, while others challenge you just as much as WU.
for the entire exchange
Public transport around the campus is not available and not needed but there is a nice and cheap street car going to downtown. Uptown is perfectly safe while downtown and the french quarter are somewhat safe during the day but unsave at night. There are endless opportunities for social activities on campus like a big gym, tennis courts, a soccer field, table tennis, basketball etc, there is indoor and outdoor pool and there are many student clubs tthat you can join. Big events are every second saturday the home games of the Tulane football team where the entire neighboorhood on and close to the campus is a big party.
I—and every exchange student I met (easily more than 50) at Tulane—was very happy to be there, and I truly cannot imagine a single thing I would have changed about the semester. Tulane is an incredibly beautiful place to study, and you will certainly make friendships that last a lifetime. The food is amazing in New Orleans, the city is very lively with lots of jazz music, the students at Tulane are super friendly, and there are too many exciting activities on and off campus to list them.
