WU provides all relevant information through their fact and information sheets, read them!
UTD offers on campus student housing, which I highly recommend. It's very easy to apply, it's the cheapest option and you avoid long bus rides to uni. I shared a flat with three other exchange students, but had my own room and shared the bathroom with only one other girl. Good to know: Sheets, towels and kitchen utensils are not provided, but there is a move in market at the beginning of the semester where you can get some basic kitchen and cleaning utensils for free.
The campus is in walking distances from the student dorms. Classes are more interactive than at WU and I had weekly homeworks in most of my classes. The workload was manageable and grading was also very fair. My classes: - Lean Six Sigma (Kannan Ramanathan): covers the concept of lean and six sigma, very interactive, great professor who really cares about his students, highly recommend this course - Global Logistics and Transportation (Andrew Frazelle): Transportation Networks, Warehousing, Inventory Management, so mostly a repetition of the 1st and 2nd semester but I highly recommend this course, the professor is really great! - Product Lifecycle Management (Divakar Rajamani): Professor uses lots of examples and little games which makes the course more interesting - Spreadsheet Modelling (Elena Katok): more of optimization than spreadsheet course, so if you want to improve your excel skills I would recommend to take another professor
for the entire exchange
Public transportation is very bad, so I mostly used Uber or Lyft to get around. Of course, this is very expensive but unfortunately there are not really any alternatives. There are some busses, which I mainly used to go to Walmart, but they are also useful to get around the areas close to campus. Since the end of last year, there is also a train going to the DFW airport. I haven't used it, but this train might save you the costs for an uber to the airport. Richardson, which is the neighborhood of UTD does not offer that many things to do in your free time, so most of the times we either went to downtown Dallas or Forth Worth. There are lots of sports events, like football, basketball, ice hockey or baseball matches. Also, the stockyards in Forth Worth are worth a visit for some cowboy/country vibes. Sport options on campus are very great and for free for students. There is a gym, a swimming pool, tennis courts and lots of sports classes like yoga, pilates, weight lifting etc. (I highly recommend the pulse pilates!).
Overall, I am very happy that I went on exchange and truly appreciated the chance to experience a new country and culture. Dallas is an excellent base for traveling, making it easy to explore the US, and I especially enjoyed the wide range of sports opportunities available on campus.
