1. Preparation

The Website for the application was a little bit chaotic, but anytime I had a question I wrote an e-mail and got help from the international office. Make sure to inform yourself about the possible exchange programmes in advance, so you can apply exactly for the ones you‘d like to attend.

2. Accommodation

First I took the offer from AU housing and got a shared house, but when I looked at it on google maps I had a feeling that I didn’t want to take it. Therefore I looked for an accommodation by myself and stayed at a student house in the end. It was nice, I had my own room and bathroom and a small kitchen. I also got to know lots of people that way.

3. Academic life at host university

Aarhus University really had a lot for us organised to make sure we find our ways at uni. We had a whole welcome week with a lot of nice events and activities and free food. That way it was easy to find people on the same exchange programme and to find out where the classes are etc. We also had exchange buddies that helped us a lot. The campus is very nice, it has a beautiful park around it and the food in the Cafeteria is very nice.

5. Every day life in the host country

Everyone uses the bike, therefore you don’t really need public transport. You can rent a bike for around 25€/month. Aarhus was very safe so I never felt unsafe going home at night even on my own. The university offers a lot of social events and sport activities you can attend. Every friday the students organise friday bars at the campus.

6. Testimonial

My overall experience in Aarhus was very nice, I met a lot of interesting people from all over the world, which made my exchange unforgettable. I enjoyed experiencing a new culture and the“hygge“ way of living as well as a totally different system of university. Apart from all the amazing insights and activities, what made my exchange really special were the people I got to know, because even though that I know them just for a few months, I know that they are friends for life and that we‘ll stay in contact.
