1. Preparation

I had an online interview, and the professor was really nice. Regarding the preparation, make sure to start the visa application early enough and, if possible, try to complete the CPF there or as soon as you arrive in Brazil. Also, take care of your vaccinations.

2. Accommodation

I chose the Uliving Paulista residence. The room wasn’t that nice, but I felt safe, and it was really easy to meet new people. The rooftop was great, and it was about a 30-minute walk from the university.

3. Academic life at host university

The infrastructure is really good compared to some other buildings in São Paulo. The cafeteria is nice, and they have the best chocolate croissants. The teaching style is more open and personal, although it also depends on the teacher. Classes are mostly held in smaller groups, with a lot of group projects in general.

5. Every day life in the host country

I almost never used public transportation. I usually walked or took an Uber to feel safer. In general, though, I didn’t feel unsafe—you just have to stay in the right areas and avoid going out alone at night. Being careful and using common sense is enough. I played volleyball at the university, but everyone spoke only Portuguese, so it was sometimes hard to understand. Still, it was a nice experience, and the team was really kind. In São Paulo, there are many concerts and cool events, and as I already mentioned, the student residence also hosted some events.

6. Testimonial

I traveled a lot—to Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. It was a really great experience, and I would definitely recommend it. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to live in Brazil forever, but it was an amazing experience. I was able to see many incredible places and meet some of the nicest people.
