1. Preparation

The preparation went relatively smooth, everything was well organised by the exchange university. Only thing one really has to take care of is accomodation and course selection. Everything else can be organised once you get to Aarhus.

2. Accommodation

I got accomodation through AU Housing which was provided by the university. Here it makes sense to be rather quick wrt. the application process to receive a housing offer - which not everyone gets. There are also other options to organise housing privately, though I was super happy with my flat. It was a 2-bedroom shared flat in a dorm located a bit up north. I think most accomodations by AU housing are also furnished which of course was also very convenient. It also makes sense to early apply for accomodations on student housing aarhus which is another site managing all student dorms around the city to ensure to have a backup. There are some dorms that are quite far away from uni, thus I recommend checking the distance to uni, especially by bike.

3. Academic life at host university

We had all our courses at the old Aarhus BSS campus, however, by the time we left the whole campus was relocated to another building, a bit more central. It is a much newer builiding and from what I have seen it looks quite nice. Best place to study is definitely the royal library, they also have a nice canteen and it is generally a nice place to spend some time - they have lots of games, table tennis etc. With regards to the teaching style it was definitely a big change to only have 3 courses (each worth 10 ECTS), but to have them 2-3 times a week. Overall, class sizes are much bigger and classes are not as interactive as they are at WU. Attendance is not being checked and all in class assignments do not count towards the final grade, though they sometimes are necessary to take part in the final exam. Thus, it is important to take enough time to study for the finals as they can be quite intense.

5. Every day life in the host country

I most of the time used my bike to get to places and rarely took the bus. The bike paths are awesome and I can definitely recommend getting a bike. I bought one through Facebook marketplace, though I think most internationals used Swapfiets to rent one. Aarhus itself is super safe, and its easy to get around at any time of the day. There are plenty social activities offered, either by ESN, the university itself or other organisations. Also, definitely check out the friday bars taking place around the uni campus. If you want to check out a gym, FitnessX often has nice offers, for example when you sign up with a friend - can definitely recommend the gym and there are plenty locations around town.

6. Testimonial

I absolutely loved my time at Aarhus university and really enjoyed my time! It's a super cute and small city and there is heaps to do. Especially if you love being outdoors there are lots of cool places to travel to.
