The preparation at WU is similar to any other exchange semester and is quite easy, because all the steps are clearly explained on the website. For Korea University, there is a bit more work, mainly because of the visa and some extra documents. However, the university sends all the important information very early by email, so it is still easy to organize everything.
There are many places to stay near Korea University, especially dorms and so called goshiwons. However, goshiwons are often very small and narrow. I decided to live in a private shared apartment with two other exchange students. We paid about 480 euros per person and lived very close to the university. The housing standard in Korea can feel different at the beginning, and for that price you should not expect too much. But I got used to it quickly, and overall Korea is a very safe and nice country to live in.
The campus of Korea University is very big and has everything you need for daily life, such as libraries, study rooms, cafés, restaurants and sports facilities. You can spend a lot of time there because everything is central and well organized. Compared to WU, the classes are more lecture based and sometimes a bit less interactive. There are fewer discussions and group projects, and the teaching is more focused on the professors speaking. I chose the courses International Business, International Trade and Negotiation, and Resource Management. Even though the classes were more lecture based, it was quite easy to get good grades. The assessment usually included exams and essays, sometimes also presentations. Compared to WU, there were fewer classes overall, so the workload was manageable.
for the entire exchange
Because Seoul is such a big city, you can really do almost anything there. There are countless activities, events, restaurants, and sports options, so it never gets boring. Thanks to the very well developed public transportation system, it is easy and fast to get from one place to another. Overall, the city is extremely diverse and exciting, and even after several months you can still discover new neighborhoods and new things to do.
Overall, the exchange semester was a great and very meaningful experience. Getting to know a completely different culture, experiencing daily life in Seoul, and gaining new perspectives was incredibly exciting. Especially traveling within and around Korea, for example to Japan and China, made the experience even more special and truly unforgettable.
