1. Preparation

I would say buying ticket there and back at the same time, because it is gonna be cheaper. Some things to buy before to avoid stress: adapters, shampoo, and deodorant. Better to travel before coming in Japan, because then it is much harder because of the uni studies (subjects are easy, but mandatory to attend 100%)

2. Accommodation

The accommodation was provided by the university and all exchange students are obliged to live there. The costs were 100 euro, but it became double price with utilities.

3. Academic life at host university

I liked sport clubs - a big variety and in most cases exchange students are welcome. I have joined tennis, badminton, and kickboxing club. Kickboxing was created by exchange students and I was a sub-leader for one semester. Talking about clubs and sports - everything is perfect here, we even had a gym for free on campus. However, courses were pretty easy and boring, it felt like I am in school. Moreover, professors could not speak English fluently - which made it even worse. If you come here - focus on sports and learning Japanese rather than actual courses. I did not learn Japanese personally, because I did not see any need it that.

5. Every day life in the host country

It is extremely safe in Japan. As a female I have never felt unsafe even at night or in the evening. It is the best country for solo traveling as I did not face any trouble. Sport was the nest part of my exchange semester, because we had so much fun with guys while creating our kickboxing club "CROKI". I recommend to join the club even as a woman. It is not hard and it is so much cardio. We did so many small stupid funny reels, you can find it on the ig: croki.ouc We had one event with a matcha ceremony, calligraphy from the municipality of Otaru - it was good, other than that we just all gathered and were going out to play billiard, to sing in karaoke bar etc. Public transport is expensive, but reliable and clean.

6. Testimonial

I think Japan is a special and unique experience in general, which turned out to be the most comprehensive and fulfilling period of my life. Sports and creating croki club made it unforgettable. Going out with others and trying new food have broaden my perspectives and cultural awareness.
