1. Preparation

For the application process at WU, start early, carefully check all deadlines, and prepare a realistic course plan to ensure smooth recognition later. It is helpful to talk to former exchange students and remain flexible in case courses change. For the semester abroad, book accommodation as early as possible, arrive before orientation, and choose a convenient and low-cost travel option such as train or bus. Also make sure your insurance documents are arranged and plan your budget realistically.

2. Accommodation

I searched for accommodation shortly after receiving confirmation, as student residences fill up quickly. I chose a student residence, which made it easier to meet other exchange students and simplified the administrative process. The location was well connected by public transport and within reasonable distance to the university, and I felt safe in the area at all times. In retrospect, I would recommend applying for housing as early as possible, carefully checking contract conditions, and clarifying what is included in the rent (e.g., utilities, internet, deposit) to avoid unexpected costs.

3. Academic life at host university

Academic life at the host university was well organized, good study spaces, and accessible libraries. The academic culture felt slightly less competitive and more flexible compared to WU Vienna, with a stronger focus on continuous assessment rather than one final exam. Teaching was generally interactive but somewhat less demanding in terms of workload. I would recommend choosing courses with practical components or case studies, as they provide more engagement and applied learning.

5. Every day life in the host country

Everyday life was convenient and well organized, with reliable and affordable public transport that made it easy to get around the city. I felt safe both during the day and at night, especially in central areas and around campus. There were many social and leisure opportunities, including student events, international meetups, cultural activities, and a vibrant nightlife. The university also offered various sports options and student organizations, which made it easy to stay active and connect with others.

6. Testimonial

My exchange semester was an academically enriching and personally formative experience. Studying in an international environment while living in Prague allowed me to broaden my perspective both academically and culturally. The combination of high-quality courses, new international friendships, and the vibrant atmosphere of the city made this semester particularly memorable.
