1. Preparation

Tips for the application process at WU for future outgoing students: In the current system I believe it to be very important to have a clear story of why the applicant wants to go to their top priority and how they will plan to contribute to the university and society they are going to. Secondly, the applicant should show some extracurricular engagement that is beneficial to society in one way or another. Thirdly, autheticity is key. I recommend however, to prepare for typical interview questions, to showcase extra comfort in the interview which is often interpreted as authenticity by the interviewer. Lastly, combining previous extracurricular engagements with the plans for impact in the host country is the cherry on top to add to a strong application. Know the country, know the university. Tips for preparing your semester abroad (incl. your travel choice to the partner university): Winter is reversed, keep that in mind. Look for housing ahead of time, or try to connect with locals at the university via socials to get referred to rental agents or current exchange students. If the applicant is going there to learn spanish take refresher or beginner courses in advance, much easier than starting from zero. Take language courses in the country to intensify learning. Talk to the locals. I flew there. If possible take the one month pre semester language course. It's like arriving to a stressfull meeting an hour early and then feeling absolutely prepared and calm when everybody else gets there, also the spanish course allegedly is very good.

2. Accommodation

I trusted some other WU Students with the Housing agency "The BA Plan". It's houses rent out in Buenos Aires for 8-11 students, typically exchangees. My house was in Palermo and was in a very safe neighborhood, 30 mins from uni with public transport. I was pretty disappointed tho and tried to leave, unfortunately I had already signed the contract. Some others had very pleasant expierences with the agency tho. For me the problem were the roomates. (If they are all from one country they thend to speak little english or spanish.) Tips I wish I’d known beforehand: Take Ubers and share with flatmates (they were cheap when I was there),

3. Academic life at host university

Campus has a lot of sports to offer, many student clubs and even opportunities to work at the uni in the labs. Culture for exchange students is very chill (like in most places), just be friendly to your professors with asking for e.g. time off to travel. Teaching style was considered to be rather similar to WU, however a bit easier, but this is rather due to exchange courses. I have attended and recommend the following courses: Feminist Legal Theories (very interesting short term seminar) The Social Brain: Understanding the Relationship between Cognition & Environment (a bit tougher, but I really enjoyed it, good input when coming from a business perspective)

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport I didn't use so much to be honest. Considerably weaker than Austria certainly. I never felt unsafe except for my first day where I had not met anyone yet (male perspektive). There's a lot of clubbing going on, football is very big and there's a lot of events and sport options, I recommend to join clubs or sport programms to immerse oneself with the local culture. Much easier to find activities that are interesting via locals than over the web.
