1. Preparation

Don't stress and simply check your mails from WU and your partner university - they tell you what to do!

2. Accommodation

I stayed with Scape Waymouth which was only a 5-10 minute walk from my Campus (UniSA Campus West). For me it was the perfect choice! It was in the city centre and close to university. I was sharing a kitchen, living room and bathroom with one other girl and I had my own bedroom. In the student residence there were lots of other communal spaces everyone shared, like study rooms, a cinema room, a game room, laundry room etc. Scape Waymouth organised events regularly, which made it easy and fun to connect with other students. I loved living there - it was like a family!!! You always meet your friends downstairs but if you want some alone time you simply go up to your room.

3. Academic life at host university

I love the University of South Australia. I took three courses (I chose all as my free electives and two of them were not business related at all!): Architectural Design Studio (dwelling) (this course counted as two courses), Discovering Opportunities in Property and 2D Contemporary Art. I loved all of my courses! I didn't have exams in any of them, which is why my semester already ended in the beginning of November. Instead, we had continuous assessment throughout the semester. The campus facilities are nice. On the city campus west, there is a very nice and modern library, a student lounge with table tennis, a student kitchen and pool. There is a gym and swimming pool which you can access relatively cheap as a student. The student-teacher relationship is more casual. Professors are easily approachable and you call each other by the first name. Everyone is super nice, welcoming and helpful!! In general, from my experience, people in Australia are very friendly, open, positive and relaxed. Also, there are lots of Student clubs, which I recommend joining. This is a great way to connect with peers who share similar interests. You can also get involved yourself in organising events.

5. Every day life in the host country

Amazing! Public transport is good - in the city centre (CBD) there are trams for free, and outside there are busses and trains. I loved going to the beach for sunset, dinner, a swim or beach volleyball. Other than that we went for a lot of hikes in the surrounding parklands or in the Adelaide Hills. There are a lot of wildlife parks and the Adelaide Zoo where you can see Australian Animals. In the city itself there are lots of events happening, most for free. For example the festival of lights, some other festivals which names I forgot and sport events at the Adelaide Oval. Sport wise, I recommend joining a university club, otherwise you can sign up for the university gym. I also joined the pure funk dance team with which I had a performance at the end of the semester (not uni related).

6. Testimonial

My highlights include getting to know people from so many different cultures - not only Australia, but also from India, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, France, Denmark, Canada, the USA, New Zealand and so many more! I loved discovering new places and traveling around Australia - learning more about the history, lifestyle, culture and mindset of the people. Being active in nature felt great - whether it was on the beach, in parks or in the hills - there were plenty of options! Getting involved in the University Dance Club, organising and teaching Dance Workshops myself was also an exciting experience!
