At CUHK the university provides student housing. There are 3 choices of accommodations, but you can only really get into Shaw College or I-House. I went to Shaw College and it is probably the worst accommodation on campus. It‘s quite run-down and the first room i got had mold and i was together with a Chinese student who barely understood english. I asked to change rooms and then i got a room without mold and together with an exchange student. So it ended up being fine and once you are used to shared bedroom and shared bathrooms, it is not that bad.
The facitities are fine. The library is nice and there is a supermarket on campus. The lectures in the course i chose were very interesting and not as theory-heavy as WU tends to be. The chinese students are very motivated which can be impractical as the courses are curved, but the grading isn‘t that harsh, as I only got As and Bs and didn‘t do a lot of work. Most of the other exchange students are very relaxed about the courses as most universities don‘t count the grades, only if you pass or fail. Courses I recommend: Anatomy of an Entrepreneur (very easy, no exams) Toolkit for Entrepreneurs (same professor, very cool guy, very very easy, no exams) If you have Free Electives: Anthropology of Film (very interesting and easy, no exams)
for the entire exchange
The public transport was amazing, the Metro was always on time and can take you basically anywhere in the city. The university has its own Metro Station, which you can reach by Shuttle Bus from your accommodation. Hong kong is really safe, despite a few typhoons which regularly happen in fall and lead to cancelled classes and a big fire a few kilometers away not that much happened. There is very much to do in Hong Kong you can go to the beach, surfing, paragliding… There are also suprisingly many hikes you can do, which are very fun. You can sign up for the sports clubs of your college and most colleges have decent gyms you can use.
The most important and rewarding aspect is the new people from all over the world you get to meet. Secondly the traveling is amazing, Hong Kong is in the perfect location the explore the rest of Asia, I personally managed to see Thailand, Vietnam, Macau, Taiwan, mainland China, South Korea and Japan. The academic is aspect is also amazing as you get to see how chinese people do business.
