Start at looking at the courses availabe and pre-decide which ones you want to pick so you have a clear overview later. Also, start looking as soon as possible for an accomodation. Most of the good rooms/apartments are gone months before your exchange starts. I travelled by car to Rome so I did not have to prepare much travel-wise. Lastly, join as many groups (whatsapp and facebook, for example "Luiss Exchange" or "Erasmus Roma") as possible to be up to date with events and upcoming trips.
I started looking for a place very late (1 1/2 months before my exchange started). Most of the websites that Luiss gave me for the accomodation search were already booked out. I also did not manage to book a dorm room since their website crashed. I found my room through facebook (please be aware of scammers! - never pay a deposit without seeing before seeing the room via video chat or in real life). I recommed finding an accomodation that is near the university - the busses are always late or they are not coming at all. I lived at Piazza Istria and it was really great - lots of students, bars, shops and the Luiss Bus was very close (3min). If possible try not to live next/ near Termini - I heard from a few people that they felt unsafe there.
The campus is rather small, but I loved that. There is a big garden, a cafe, a cafeteria, and lots of nice little restaurants and bars next to the campus. The academic culture varies depending on the course and also the professors. It is sometimes more of a listening style or an interactive class. I would recommend the courses AI for Brand Management and Neuromarketing - I learned a lot and it was extremely interesting!.
for the entire exchange
The public transport is okay - you can never count on the buses to be on time, but you learn to be patient and just roll with it. The metro is way more reliable. I always felt safe in Rome, even at night. However, be aware that public transport does not run at night, and that taxi/Uber prices are very high. I would recommend joining in on all the Luiss exchange trips/parties/etc that are offered - that's how you will meet your friends:)) I recommend exploring Rome on foot ;)
I really enjoyed my time in Rome - it is really la dolce vita! Finding a fun and nice friend group really made my exchange special. We travelled around Italy, visited a lot of museums, did sports (padel, tennis, running, etc) together, and spent our free days walking through Rome. My number one tip: Be very social at the beginning!
