1. Preparation

If you have an European citizenship you most likely only need to apply for an ESTA and not a visa which is very simple and easily accessible. I took a direct flight VIE-YUL which I definitely recommend (you will have a lot of luggage so make your life more comfortable).

2. Accommodation

I lived together with 3 other students from WU. We found ours on google (Alma Appartments; apartment with 4 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms). It was kind of a student residence but also not really. It was right next to the metro station Guy Concordia which is very convenient. I would look for a flat on the downtown side of the Mont Royal or Plateau and not really close to uni.

3. Academic life at host university

The buildings in which bachelor classes are held are a bit far off from everything else but still easily accessible by public transport. The main building is quite modern and nice to study at (great library). All buildings have a cafeteria which has ok food with ok prices but there is not really a supermarket around. Teaching is not that different but teachers tend to grade a lot harder than at WU.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is pretty good, you have metro and busses. Montréal has many homeless people but still it is safe to go home at night (also as a girl). HEC offers many events for exchange students which to be honest where not organized that well but still definitely a must go. Also there is a fitness studio at uni (cheap). Hechange offers international Wednesday so be mindful of taking a class on Thursday morning or Thursday in general...

6. Testimonial

Montréal is a very livable city and also close to many others so you can travel a lot. It is definitely worth going to there, you will meet so many cool people. I would definitely choose the city again.
