1. Preparation

The application process is simply writing a motivational letter and giving preferences for universities. To study at VUW an english proficiency certificate is required. This can be made after being accepted as an exchange student. There is not much preparation required, simply registering for courses and finding accomodation.

2. Accommodation

There is university accomodation available. Simply apply in time and foreign students will definitely receive that. There are several different halls and independent living apartments - the location and price depends on where one applies. I shared my flat with two other international students, there were also shared flats of up to 8 people.

3. Academic life at host university

The law campus is a 15 to 20 min walk from the main campus. There a gyms at both the law and the main campus, all other amenities (cafes, restaurants etc.) can be found on both campus as well. The courses are very small and personal (up to 15 people). Participation is always required and instead of exams every student has to do a 7,500 word research paper to a chosen topic.

5. Every day life in the host country

In wellington public transport is almost never required but it is possible to walk everywhere. I always felt safe, the university and student accomodation always organised social events.

6. Testimonial

I had a great experience in New Zealand. University is rather chill compared to Austria and there is lots of time to do trips with other internationals. The course werd very personal and the professors worked more closely with us students, which was a very enjoyable change.
