Try to look early for accommodation and also look at the courses you want to take in the period.
I look at every accommodation website provided from the WU. I looked also at the Guesthouse and any flats available for 5 months, and luckily found a flat with a friend, who is also from Vienna, near the sports facility of the university. To university itself was around 15 minutes by bike. Our location was very quite and peaceful
I would recommend doing Fundamentals of Supply Chain as it is a very interesting course and also can get transferred to BLP. The teaching style is very different to what we are used, as they use a problem based learning system. What this means, every course is aroud 15 students with one tutor and every tutorial/ class is presenting and discussing the content.
for the entire exchange
Maastricht is easy to live in. Public transport is reliable, but most people cycle, getting a bike early is a must The city feels very safe, even at night. There's a lively social scene through ESN and student associations, plenty of bars around the Markt and Vrijthof. On the downside, the city is small, so nightlife gets repetitive, shops close early, and going out is fairly pricey.
My semester in Maastricht was a good experiences of my studies. The Problem-Based Learning approach pushed me to engage far more actively than I was used to, and the small, international tutorial groups made it easy to connect with people from all over the world. (In the beginning i didnt like the approach) Between weekend trips across Europe, evenings around the Vrijthof, and a genuinely welcoming student community, the city quickly felt like home, just more expensive.
