1. Preparation

I prepared for my exchange by reading previous exchange reports, asking previous dd students, and reading the Bocconi website. I also arranged accommodation early. I traveled to Milano by car from Vienna.

2. Accommodation

I stayed in the QUO student accommodation, which I arranged with other WU DD students before arriving in Milan. The flat was in the Porta Romana area. I recommend staying close to Bocconi, or Porta Romana/Venezia. Also start the accommodation search as early as possible, as housing in Milan is competitive and can be expensive. Use websites like idealista or immobiliare.

3. Academic life at host university

Bocconi campus facilities are not as good as the ones at WU. There are limited study spaces and the library is not very nice either. Compared to WU, I found the teaching style to be less interactive and more individualistic - less group works and more final exams. The best course I had was an elective named Luxury Companies in the Global Landscape.

5. Every day life in the host country

Milan public transport is not as reliable as in Vienna. There are often strikes, when the public transport is not working at all. I would avoid taking the bus in general for safety reasons. The best way to move around the city is by metro or walking. Overall, I felt safe, especially during the day and in the central areas. I often walked home also during the night. The city is very vibrant, better than Vienna, in terms of bars, restaurants, social life. However, Bocconi does not organize many events, there is nothing like WUMA. We had to organize a double degree meeting on our own - highly recommend, as all my friends are from the DD community. Regarding sport, I was going to Virgin active, which is the gym at Bocconi. It is a bit overpriced but for me personally totally worth it.

6. Testimonial

The most valuable part of my exchange was the friendships I built with people from all over the world. Meeting other double degree students from different academic backgrounds broadened my perspective and inspired me through their ambition, intelligence, and diverse ways of thinking. It took me some time to truly understand and appreciate Milan, but after a few months I fell in love with its vibrant energy.
