1. Preparation

I went there by plane. Except for the usual, like already having booked the accommodation, I would also recommend having a mobile data plan (for example, through eSIM) booked in advance.

2. Accommodation

I would recommend communicating with everybody else from WU who is going to the same city/university to find the best method of finding accommodation. For Singapore, we used Cove, which was really helpful as they are very professional and straightforward, and communication with the host was very easy for us. I would try to choose a central location and proximity to an MRT station. I would also check how far the ride to the university is before the final selection. A good location can be a great enhancement on the quality and positive outcome of your experience in Singapore. When going to SMU, you should consider that accommodation can be very expensive, as SMU does not offer student housing.

3. Academic life at host university

Because SMU is a young university, the campus is very modern, and all the technical equipment is up to date. Insiders know that the Law Library is far superior to the main library. All courses have a practical component like a presentation, which you should take seriously as your fellow students expect you to work hard so the group can get a good grade. I would recommend choosing easier courses, as this makes it easier to really utilize Singapore's great location for travel. I managed to choose all my courses to take place on Monday and Tuesday so I could take the rest of the week for traveling. I can strongly recommend the course MGMT222 Family Business, which was very easy but also very interesting and doesn't have an end-of-term exam. I can also strongly recommend COR222 Ethics & Corp Responsibilty with Prof Bacchur because of a very inclusive teaching styles with very interesting topics and case studies.

5. Every day life in the host country

Everything in singapore is very expensive such as the public transport which cost ca. 2,5€ per trip. Therefore everything works. The University offers a great range of events and sporting options. Singapore is probalby the safest city in the world.

I had great people with me which made the exchange very enjoyable, also everybody was very good in balancing academic success with travel and partys. We traveled almost every week and explored new countries and cultures.
