1. Preparation

I believe the most important thing is to have all of your paperwork in order, especially if you are headed to the U.S. Get your Visa as early as possible! Make sure to look at housing options in avdance. You can live more comfortably and spend much less than if you choose to live on campus, if you find the right place. However, i will say that most of the shared house listings will be posted during the break in between terms or the last 2 weeks of the previous term at the earliest. Another great tip is to buy the flights a few months prior to departure. You can get really cheap flights that way.

2. Accommodation

I stayed at the Corvallis Ihouse because i thought it was the only place with a reasonable price that didn't have a lease longer than 1 term. It was rather cheap,yes, but honestly it was kind of dirty and not the best place to stay in my opinion. Once i got to corvallis, which was around 2 weeks before our program started i realised that a lot of listings for rooms in shared town houses were being posted. If i had not signed a contract for 3 months already i would have definitely stayed in one of those. A good place to look for these listings is either the Facebook group the OSU International Office will send you or the Snapchat class story. You can acces that one as soon as you have a ONID (OSU) Account. I would recommend you to look for some place where you can stay for few days while you look for a better permanent accomodation. Some places like the IHouse offer rooms daily.

3. Academic life at host university

I think OSU was great! The campus is beautiful, the classes are very good and the overall learning quality is just phenomenal. There other students are very nice and there are tons of activities to facilitate leisure and networking. They have a great Sport and Recreation centre, You can earn credits through weekly Physical activity classes (PAC's) in almost every sport or just hang around campus and meet other students.The students are also very fond of their sports team (the beavers) and therefore going to any sports event is a great experience. In regards to teaching i have to say that i enjoyed it more than at the WU. It feels less exam heavy as you have to midterms and one final. You get many chances to make up for lost points and have to work through class materials

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport in corvallis is free, however most buses only pass every 30min. What is pretty cool, however, is a service provided by the university called saferide. It is basically like a free uber for students from 8pm to 1am so you dont have to walk anywhere alone at night. Personallyi would recommend getting a bike as corvallis isn't that big and you can get anywhere fast enough that way. Overall i believe corvallis is very safe and a great town to spend a term in. As i mentioned earlier, there are tons of leisure and activity options provided by the University. There are all types of sports events, a bowling and gaming alley below Memorial Union and student clubs for every topic imaginable.
