1. Preparation

Apply early for accommodation and the visa, I flew first to Bali and stayed there for a few days before going to Perth, Bali ist just a 3,5h flight and that way I could already adjust a bit and relax because as soon as you arrive in Perth O-week starts and it gets super busy right away:)

2. Accommodation

I stayed at college row at Trinity Residential College. It is an all inclusive accomondation, which means you get 3 meals a day and also loads of activities and a great community. We had an amazing O-Week (including surfing lessons, trip to rotto and much more). Trin is right on the opposite side of UWA and I felt completely safe at all times! The location is great. I can just say good things about Trin! I met the best people there, there where a lot of other exchangies and would say from talking to other people Trin was defenitely the right choice! I would 100% stay there again! The only thing is the meals - the food is good and I loved that you always meet up for meals in the Dining hall, but obviously it is always kind of the same and we all got a bit tired after some time but I think thats normal. Breakfast is super good, the cold breakfast is from 6:30 until 11:00 which is so good, they have all different types of joghurt, granola, chia pudding, fresh fruit, toast, müsli,... At lunch they always have a wrap and pizza station with super nice and fresh ingredients which I loved:) but of course also warm dishes. Dinner is mostly stews and rice, but it was ok most of the time.

3. Academic life at host university

UWA is beautiful. Academic culture is a bit different, I found it in general super chill, but the grading is super strict! So be aware of that! It feels like everything is super easy and to pass the unit you're fine, but to get a really good mark they expect you to go over and beyond. E.g. they tell you how great your presentation was and everything is perfect and you still get 75%, which is still very good there. Units I took and which are all fine to be credited for the "Courses Abroad": Brand Management: was my fave, really chill, would recommend, no exam just a presentation New Product Development: was fine, also quite chill, no exam, just a presentation Active Leadership: Literally every exchange student takes this one and I was super excited, I did SUP, but my tutor was so strict and weird I did not have a good time and it was def the unit I put in the most effort! I feel like they made it harder over the past semesters bcs now there is also an exam at the end, but I do know a lot of people who loved it so maybe it was just me:) In general there was no need to go to all the tutorials, but for me it was part of the grading so I did attend almost all of them.

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is not the best in Perth. Most people have cars. But the CBD is around 15 min per bus from Trin and the beach around 30 min. In general living in Perth is so great the beaches are insane and I had the best time! I also travelled a lot around WA (up north, down south). There are a lot of sports options from UWA but also from my accomondation and we also had a gym on campus.

6. Testimonial

The people I met during my exchange made it the best experience! The general lifestyle, especially on the West Coast, is insane, and I cannot wait to go back! Road Trips, camping, and the chill outdoorsy lifestyle are so good. The campus of UWA is so pretty and studying there had some challenges for me but made me grow personally and academically! If you have the chance to study there, congrats it's gonna be AMAZAING!!
