1. Preparation

In terms of clothing, Hong Kong is very easy. From October to mid-April, it's warm but not too warm. However, from mid-May to September, there are definitely more rain showers. Overall, Hong Kong is a beautiful city with much more nature than I expected. In terms of preparation, Hong Kong is very easy; there's nothing to bring besides the obvious.

2. Accommodation

Because Hong Kong is so densely populated, the location is not as important as it is in big other cities. Nevertheless, staying on the island or close to it is still nice. Apartments can be very small, so don't be fooled into thinking rooms are bigger than they are just because of some pictures. The university is quite far out, but normally you only have classes three times a week and there is a gym and lots of other sports facilities on campus, so it's nice to be able to use those.

3. Academic life at host university

The teaching style is quite similar to the WU, however home-students are much less active in class. The campus facilities are very nice, but it's located far outside the city. I visitied the course "Design Thinking for Managers" by Fabrice Fischer and he is a very good professor. Besides that, I took a manadrin class, which wasn't super easy but still a lot of fun learning a completly different language (however passing the class is very easy and professor Xin Liang is a great teacher).

5. Every day life in the host country

Public transport is very easy as you pay everything with the Octupus Card. Even though the admin from Hong Kong will tell you that it's not possible, you can apply for a student octupus card (takes 10-14 days) and then you pay only 50% for the Metro. Besides that, there is a lot to do in Hong Kong. Hikes, Horse Races, Bars, Clubs, cool running spots and so on.

6. Testimonial

For me, my time in Hong Kong was very special. Not only is it a huge city with lots of opportunities, it also offers plenty of nearby nature and some beautiful beaches. The food and restaurants are also excellent, with a huge variety of different cuisines. Overall, Hong Kong was definitely one of the best places I could have chosen for my semester abroad, as it's also very centrally located in Asia for travelling.
