Start looking for accommodation soon enough, so that you can find a place at a reasonable price. Personally, I felt that some of the offers were quite expensive.
I started my search by reading exchange reports to find recommendations from former exchange students. Based on their recommendations, I looked at the website pamplonaroom.com and compared it with other offers from Unibooking, Amro etc. I decided on a shared apartment (which I shared with 3 more girls) through pamplonaroom because it was only about 10 minutes from the university campus (in the Iturrama district), with my own room and bathroom for €450/month. Iturrama is a very safe neighborhood and I would definitely recommend living there, as it was very close to the university, there were many grocery stores and cafes nearby and I felt safe there even when walking home alone at night. A tip: From what I've heard, the Milagrosa district is considered a bit more dangerous/sketchy (at night).
The university campus is huge and green. As far as academic life is concerned, there are several faculty buildings, but I only had classes in two of them, which were very close to each other, so I had no problem getting to lectures on time. The teaching style is quite practical and there are group assignments in almost every class. The professors are generally quite friendly and always offer help if you have any difficulties with the course content. Some professors are a bit stricter, for example, by banning the use of mobile phones or even laptops during class or being very strict about arriving on time. I enjoyed most of my classes and I think they offered me a new perspective on some of the things I had learned before.
for the entire exchange
I only used public transport (buses) occasionally, as I lived so close to the university and Pamplona is a city that is very easy to walk around – it took me about 25 minutes to walk to the city center. I bought a Villavesas Card (for €2), which you can top up with money and then pay 50 cents for each bus ride (compared to about €1.65 per ride without a bus card). Pamplona is a very safe city, and the university offers many sports activities, as well as many gyms throughout the city. There is a lively nightlife and many leisure activities for Erasmus students.
My experience with the Erasmus program in Pamplona was great thanks to the academic side, the beautiful city, and the community of Erasmus students and offices who organized many trips and weekly activities. I especially liked that Pamplona is a smaller city that is easy to get around on foot, with a beautiful historic center, several parks, and a green university campus. I would definitely recommend Pamplona as an Erasmus destination to anyone.
