1. Preparation

- Before applying to different exchange locations/universities, make sure you're well informed about them. Research the courses available there, how difficult it is to find accommodation in that city, minimum ECTs requirements from the host university... etc - Do any administrative part of the application or enrollment to the host university well in advance because it can take a lot of time. - Look for accommodation as soon as possible

2. Accommodation

It was very easy for me to find accommodation because Aarhus University provides a lot of resources to help you. You can choose to apply for student housing through the university, and then they allocate you to a room/apartment based on your accommodation type preference. You have a certainty that they will give a housing offer. I live in a shared house with 9 other exchange students (1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms). It was not too far from the city center or the university, and it was very safe. I highly recommend doing a shared house.

3. Academic life at host university

The Campus is very big but well organized and close to the city center. The libraries are nice, but close earlier than at WU. The teaching styles are less participatory and more self-study-based. Students have very few class hours per week, even fewer for exchange students. For my classes, I also had no coursework throughout the semester, just final exams and projects at the end. The course difficulties were similar to WU in general.

5. Every day life in the host country

I almost never used public transport, it was much easier to use a bike because nothing is very far. There is however a lot of hills, so for someone who isn't used to biking, it might be difficult. A lot of people got Swapfiets (rent a bike monthly), I got a second-hand one from Facebook Marketplace which was nice because I could sell it at the end. Very safe city for everyone. A lot of activities are organized for exchange students (especially at the beginning). Every Friday there are Friday Bars, which are student-run bars on campus with very cheap drinks, and that's where everyone goes out. There aren't many sports clubs but there is something called Aarhus Tryouts, where you can attend a lot of different sports classes for free.

6. Testimonial

A very nice experience overall. Aarhus is the perfect city to do an exchange because its not too big, very student-based, super organized, very safe, you can easily travel within Denmark... (The weather isn't the best, but it was good until october so not too bad) I think my favorite part was probably my house and housemates; we were very lucky because we got along super well and the house was very nice. It made me feel at home very quickly.
