1. Preparation

Prepare the sheet that is given to you beforehand about your social engagement. In the interview, present yourself why you are socially engaged and able to connect abroad. Before you move to your exchange destination, you should have booked your accommodation and preferably your flight back, since a roundtrip is always cheaper than a one-way flight.

2. Accommodation

I had heard about the Tartu College, however, this year I met a girl that stayed there that said it really was not good. I personally booked an AirBnB with two other WU students. The location was really close to the harbourfront and about an 8 minute walk away from the Union Station. As long as you live close to the Metro Line 1, you will be fine.

3. Academic life at host university

York University is similar to the WiSo23 curriculum as they have many assignments, such as group presentations and essays. At the university, the professors tend to get rather close with the students and try to create a lenient environment.

5. Every day life in the host country

Toronto offers many places for social life. Most known bars and clubs are in the King St. Many restaurants are Downtown like in Chinatown and Yonge Street. Eaton Centre is great. Baseball and Ice Hockey games are a must! Downtown feels super safe.

6. Testimonial

I loved Toronto. I loved everything about the entire exchange term. The new insights, experiences you never had before, the new city, but especially: the new people. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you can really escape your life at home and try to look into a new one. I personally mostly met my friends in the exchange people bubble, however, I do not think that this is a bad thing - especially because most of them are from Europe which makes is far easier to stay in touch properly. Make sure to really use the term to get out and do stuff with the new people you meet, the memories will stay forever. Also, don't rush yourself into travelling all the time. I travelled a lot, but I know many of my friends made 'only' 1-2 trips (that were slightly farer away) during the exchange term. Really look into the stuff you can do in Toronto itself, when you have free time. It truly is a great city with great opportunities.
