1. Preparation

Get in contact with the international office and also with the university as courses might change over time

2. Accommodation

The university offers on-campus accommodation, easy to organize but expensive around 200 pounds per week. Normally they get in contact with you as soon as possible and want to know if you want to live on campus. As the semester is only 10 weeks long, it's recommendable to only book the accommodation for this period and if you have exams in January (like I had), you can stay in the visitor accommodation on campus for a few nights. This is cheaper than paying for one whole month. The rooms on campus are quite small and a bit old. There are several options from which you can choose: shared flat with 6 people sharing only the kitchen (own bathroom); houses with 4 people and shared bathroom; ... However, there is not much to do on campus so living in the city is much more enjoyable, but be aware that the bus to uni costs 2.10 pounds per ride - there is no student ticket.

3. Academic life at host university

Courses here are taught in a reasonable pace, most of the master students have 2 - 4 modules, which is really okay with the workload. My modules were split on writing 2 essays and the other 2 models were exam-based. The grading is very similar to the WU, most of the modules are graded by a combination of group projects, in-class exam/ presentation and exam or essay. Normally WU students have the advantage that they already have knowledge on the subjects, as you do your exchange in the 3rd semester, and there you only have 1-year master programs which means you start in their 1st semester. However, don't underestimate the difficulty of the exams, they can be challenging. The library is very big and offers many docking stations

5. Every day life in the host country

I joined the Ballet society and we had practice sessions three times a week. The university has also a gym nearby where you can book group exercise classes. To go into the city it takes about 20 minutes by bus or an hour on foot. There is not too much going on at the University and the most people I met was through the societies.

6. Testimonial

My highlight was performing in the great hall with my ballet society. Other people joined the hiking society and did trips to the Lake District, which I heard should also be super beautiful to visit. It's great for meeting international people but also to be in contact with the British people. You can for sure profit from speaking with natives in a sense of language development.
