1. Preparation

It is important to keep on top of emails and prepare yourself well for the application process. The interview counts towards almost half of the ranking score, so it is imprtant to prepare for that well. Also, really research all potential potions before listing them.

2. Accommodation

The accommidation search was nerve wrackinbg because only half of the applicants recieved studnet housing. I reciveved my acceptance email only a month before I left, so I would have had trouble finding a different place. I stayed in the student recsidence Walter Gage which is centrally located on canmpus. I had five roommates but it was nice. Since the campus is so big, I was mainly surrounded by other students which made it quite safe. Food and all facillties were available. I wish I had known that I would not be provided with a blanket nor a pillow!

3. Academic life at host university

The campus is huge and has everything from event lounges to Bloomberg terminals. I found the course load fitting and the teaching styles respectful and engaging. Professors were motivated and often moved towards more applicable materials when teaching Finance courses compared to WU. There were many actuvities, clubs and communities to join, especially in sports.

5. Every day life in the host country

It was easy to navigate and everyone was friendly enough to help out when I needed it. Public transportation cousts were covered by the univeristy. UBC on the outskirts of Vancouver, so it was a 30-60 minute bus ride everywhere. Events happened every day, and it was very easy to get involoved and meet people. I did however feel much more unsafe in the city than at home, as there are many drug addicts and reported crimes in Chinatown and Downtown Eastside.

6. Testimonial

UBC offered a diverse range of courses and programs that I otherwise would not have gotten access to. Having discussion with other exchange students and locals really threw me outside of my bubble and heloed me gain a better understanding of new opinions. Also, Vancouver is unforgettably scenic: it's large oak forests and beaches will remain as lasting memories!
