Beforehand, I have taken out an insurance package for stays abroad which covered everything for 55 Euros per month. In order to obtain a student visa, I only had to fill out a form from the exchange university which they sent you separately to your email. The whole process was done by the host university in exchange for a fee of 200 Euros.
During my exchange semester I stayed in an Airbnb which was located on Hong Kong Island, in the district Wan Chai, which is not far from the city center of Hong Kong. It only took me 30 minutes by metro to get to the university. I took the East Rail Line and it only took me 15 minutes to get to the closest MTR station of the university, followed by a 15-minute walk to the campus. I preferred looking for a room in Hong Kong by myself, since the only student accommodation type provided by the exchange university for the master program was a shared room on campus at a not reasonable price. For me personally, I wanted to live closer to the city center. When looking for a room, I can recommend areas like Mong Kok, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay.
The campus for business administration is quite huge but can be reached by foot within 5 minutes. There is a main canteen with lots of food options for a decent price. Additionally, there a few cafés and bistros on campus. In between courses, there is enough time for lunch as well as for completing the homework. HKBU offers lots of space for group as well as individual work. In comparison to WU, HKBU has a quite higher workload since there are weekly homeworks, group works and essays. Lecturers highly encourage students to participate in the course with in-class discussions and sharing experiences and thoughts.
for the entire exchange
On campus, there are lots of opportunities to exercise with a tracking field for running and a swimming hall for swimming. Every Wednesday, there is a horse race called Happy Wednesday taking place on Hong King island and sets a fix day for an international meet up and to gather with friends and have drinks. Besides, Hong Kong offers great museums, shopping places, great hiking and swimming places to go to. The landscape of Hong Kong is stunning and highly diverse with lots of places to discover and visit. During the weekends, I usually went to the outer islands, hiking or visiting temples. Above all, Hong Kong is a great hub to travel to other asian cities.
Overall, I truly enjoyed my trimester abroad in Hong Kong as the city has so much to offer from stunning beaches, hiking trails to an incredible skyline. What fascinated me most was Hong Kongs rich history which is reflected in its amazing culinary, architecture and lifestyle. What I enjoyed most was discovering Cantonese kitchen
