1. Preparation

The application process itself is very straightforward. You just need to fill out a form about your motivation and then go through an interview, the questions for which are based on the same form. My interview was conducted via Google Meet. The most important recommendation here is to be honest, don't stress, and show your interest and engagement in the programme. I chose BI because I had heard many positive reviews about this business school. In addition, Oslo is an ideal starting point for those who want to explore Scandinavia. So if you want to be able to combine travelling and studying, BI would be an excellent choice. As for the actual preparations for the exchange, everything was quite simple. After the nomination, I received a letter from BI with further instructions on what to do next. I advise you not to delay submitting all applications for accommodation, classes, etc. It is also worth noting that non-EU citizens need to obtain a residence permit for Norway in another country (they are not issued in Austria), which takes quite a long time, so it is best not to put it off.

2. Accommodation

BI provides the opportunity to apply for accommodation in advance. You will need to fill out a form indicating the management company of the dormitory you would like to apply to. All details will be sent to you in an information sheet. You will be able to look at all the dormitories in advance and choose the one that suits you best in terms of price, location and conditions. Again, I recommend submitting your application as early as possible so that you don't have to wait on a waiting list and can be sure to get the room you want. Oslo has a very high level of safety, so in general you don't need to worry about choosing a neighbourhood. The public transport system is also quite good, but during the winter season there can be problems with bus and tram services, so I would go for a place within walking distance of the metro or right next to the university.

3. Academic life at host university

The BI campus is very modern and bright. It has many study areas, a library, and several cafés, which makes studying here very comfortable. Studying here is somewhat comparable to WU. I took three courses, two of which were very similar to standard courses at WU. The international economics class was quite informative, and the professor really tried to convey the information to the students. At the end of the course, there is an exam with open-ended questions. The Strategic Sustainable Innovation class initially seemed very promising, but did not live up to expectations. I cannot recommend it, because despite the project being quite interesting (you search for a company yourself and conduct interviews), the lecturer was always lost and unable to give constructive feedback or answer questions. The assessment system was also very vague. If you have the opportunity to choose another subject, do so. I also took the Communication in Action course, which is very different from the standard university class. If you want to improve your presentation and critical thinking skills, this course is for you. At each workshop, you will have to step outside your comfort zone.

5. Every day life in the host country

Decent transport system, good level of safety. The university organises a large number of different events and also has a huge number of clubs and sports sections, so everyone can find something to suit their interests. Oslo is especially great for people who enjoy hiking or spending time in nature. In addition, there is an organisation for international students (ESN) that also arranges various events and trips.

6. Testimonial

I left my comfort zone. I discovered a new world. I found a new side of myself.
